The Maltese is very affectionate. Maltese love to play, but they also love to be in your arms or on your lap. They love to kiss and cuddle.
[Back to Top]Maltese, Bichons and Poodles can be good choices for people with allergies. You should consul with your Allergist before making a purchase.
[Back to Top]Because Maltese are a toy breed, they are most suitable for families with well behaved children over 7 years old. Maltese do not need a lot of room for exercise; they will entertain themselves indoors and are quite happy doing so. Maltese travel well by car or airline, They are happy in a crate (and safer) or Sherpa bag.
[Back to Top]Yes, Maltese require frequent (daily) grooming. They may be left long if you are willing to spend time combing and brushing daily and weekly baths. Most people find it easier to find a professional Groomer to clip them in a puppy cut usually about an inch long all over with a shorter beard and little bangs. Maltese coat does not shed like an undercoated breed, but it can mat severely. Grooming costs in my area are around $30.00 every 5-6 weeks for a puppy cut.
[Back to Top]After 12 weeks of age is an appropriate time to bring your puppy home. If the puppy is very tiny it may be wise to wait a little longer.
[Back to Top]Yes it is much easier to potty train a puppy that is crate trained. It is also a safe place for your puppy when you can't be there or when you are too busy to keep and eye on them. Dogs love a small napping place out of the way; it is instinctive for them to den. So what better place then the crate.
[Back to Top]Not all ads in the newspaper are responsible breeders, then when you get there you feel so sorry for the dog because of the poor conditions you buy it anyway to save it. Usually you end up with and unsociable or even unhealthy pet. Show breeder's breed as close to the standard as possible to improve the breed. They are proving their breeding stock worthy by showing their dogs in conformation AKC dog shows. They are concerned and up to date on health issues and are true enthusiasts of the breed. They usually spend more money breeding and showing than they will ever get in return for their puppies. They devote their lives to one or two breeds and are always available when you have a problem.
[Back to Top]Breeders have different ways of determining their prices, so you may see a variety of price ranges. My average pet price is $1,200.
